Um, all ribbing aside, I think we can all safely say YouTube’s doing something right, for all the experimentation. Over 6 billion video plays last month. People certainly seem to not be having any trouble using the player, which sounds like one definition of good design to me.
There’s actually yet another change this week: a “HD” button on the embedded player for videos that have a higher-quality version, and its so well-considered that when you switch it on, it re-buffers to the same point you were at before. You can see it on the new Plushgun video I embedded here yesterday (it appears after you press play). I can’t think of other companies of their size and influence that experiment so much and introduce great new features so often.
