Y’know…My generation has been referred to as either Generation X or Y…or just plain lost. But, I have to tell you. I think we finally found our voice last night.
I’ve endured being disowned by cousins down south for supporting Obama and my mom has endured it with one of her own friends. And it’s my sincere hope that these people take a look in the mirror today and realize this country is tired of fighting amongst ourselves.
Harlem was amazing last night. It was everything I had hoped for. I have never seen so much unbridled joy on the streets. And this is coming from a guy who was just at the Phillies World Series parade.
Me and Kyle were buying beer at a corner store in Harlem right before Obama clinched the presidency. The cashier was wearing an Obama pin and watching the election results on a small television. He noticed we were wearing Obama pins and said “Congratulations”. To which we replied “Congratulations to you too.”
When Obama won and the house party I was at dissipated onto the streets. I made a point to stop into that corner store again. I went up to the cashier, put my hand out to him and said, “We did it.” He shook my hand and replied, “We did it!”
We both had tears in our eyes.
Once in a lifetime.
