Possible origin / first use of the “Old Gray Lady” nickname for the New York Times. From Tuesday, September 18, 1951, Officials and Leaders in Many Fields Greet The New York Times on 100th Anniversary, which printed a congratulation from Benjamin H. Namm, who a Google search tells us was owner of the A.I. Namm & Son department store in Brooklyn, its building still a landmark on Fulton Street: Heartiest congratulations upon the 100th anniversary of THE NEW YORK TIMES.
