– M.I.A. shows her director Romain Gavras our “Key of Awesome” Telephone parody (we think), as reported by the NY Times. Wow. [Watch the video here]

Wikipedia’s article on the possibly apocryphal infinite regression story of the old lady and the scholar (possibly Bertrand Russell or William James), quoted in Stephen Hawking’s A Brief History of Time, and Robery Anton Wilson’s Prometheus Rising.

OK, some answers to bijan’s questions, as best as I’ve figured them out so far, since I’m on vacation and can sit around thinking about Lost. And then some questions of my own… (SPOILERS below) What was the significance of the “numbers” from season 1. Best answer seems to be they were compass bearings from Jacob’s lighthouse mirror — each number corresponded...

Dan Lyons, on why he's switching to Android →
The most telling thing to me was Google’s tone toward Apple at the event. Instead of pretending to still be an Apple ally, Google today basically threw down the gantlet and admitted that it’s engaged in total war with Apple. And unlike other Apple rivals, like Adobe, Google execs weren’t huffing and puffing and wringing their hands about Apple’s bad behavior. No, instead, Google was mocking Apple....

Introducing the Google Font API & Google Font... →
Exciting: Google has worked with top designers to create high-quality, open source fonts, hosted for free in the cloud, and available to designers and developers as web fonts (supported in CSS 3) for improved web typography. You can add the embedded fonts to any site with a line of code. [via petervidani]

Lift Nashville. They need your help.
fredseibert: Throughout this decade, the tragedies seem to keep hitting some of America’s special cities. The latest, of course, is Nashville. Some FOF’s are trying to help, but until they solidify their plans (hard to do when their city is literally drowning) here’s something you can do now. Like we suggested at the start of Hurricane Katrina, if you don’t have a regular charity you know...

– Dropping of ‘Law and Order’ Leaves Hole in Economy (NY Times). Here in West Chelsea, where L&O is based, seeing them shooting on any given day, or loading props at Chelsea Piers, was part of the fabric of the neighborhood. Twenty years is a great run, but this is a bummer.
